How To Add Alt Title To WordPress Media To Rank In Google Images: SEO + Accessibility Tutorial
Adding images to your posts and product pages can encourage people to read them, and well-chosen images can also reinforce your message and allow you to rank well in image search results. But you should always remember to give your images a good alt attribute. Because alt text strengthens the message of your page through search engine spiders and improves the accessibility of your website. This article explains what alt and title attributes are and why you should optimize them.

What are the Alt and Title properties? Here is a complete HTML image tag: img src=”image.jpg” alt=”image description” title=”image tooltip” The alt and title attributes of an image are often called “alt tag” or “alt text” and “title tag”. (Technically, they’re not tags, they’re attributes, but don’t worry). These properties allow you to add a textual description of the image, which helps with SEO and accessibility.
The alt tag is used by screen readers, for example, browsers used by visually impaired people. These screen readers tell you what’s in the image by reading alt tags. However, it’s not just screen readers that read alt text. Search engines like Google also use this information to understand the context of an image; to figure out what the image shows and what it is for.
Every image should have an alt text. Not just for SEO purposes, but also for accessibility. Because if you use a screen reader, you won’t know what the picture is about.
The title attribute appears as a tooltip when you hover over the element. The title attribute is not required. Also, most of the time adding it doesn’t even make sense. They are only for people using a mouse (or other pointing device), and the only case where a title attribute is required for accessibility is with iframe and frame tags.
Google’s article on images is titled “Use descriptive alt text.” This is no coincidence. Google places a relatively high emphasis on alt text. You can use this to determine what’s in the image, and how it relates to the surrounding text. That’s why we have a feature in our Yoast SEO content analysis that specifically checks if you have at least one alt-tagged image with your focus keyword.
If your content contains more than 4 images, you will only get a green sphere if the percentage of images with the key phrase in the alt text is between 30% and 70%. If you use keywords in more than 70% of your images, your bullet points will turn orange to prevent you from falling into the keyword trap. If you have Yoast SEO Premium or Yoast SEO for Shopify, the plugin will also support synonyms you add to your keywords.
When you upload an image to WordPress, you can set a title and an alt attribute. By default, it uses the image filename in the title attribute. And if you don’t enter an alt attribute, it copies that to the alt attribute. While this is better than writing nothing, it’s pretty poor practice. You really need to take the time to craft a proper alt text for every image you add to a post. Users and search engines will thank you for it.
How to add alt attributes in WordPress. WordPress makes it really easy to add alt attributes. Follow the steps below to add them to your images. Your (image) SEO will truly benefit if you get these details right. People using screen readers will also like you all the more for it.

Welcome to Casey’s SEO and today I’m going to show you how you can find keywords for your image alt text. So, we’ll head to the computer and I’m going to show you guys how you can find your keywords using SEM Rush. And then I’ll show you how you can take those keywords and add them to your images for your Alt image text. But first make sure to hit that like and subscribe button so you can stay updated with more SEO tips. I’m going to be using SEM Rush and the Key Word Magic tool in order to find keywords for our Alt image text.
So, you can go up here to the search bar and type in a keyword. For this example, we will use SEO. Now you can search for a keyword difficulty or by volume. I always recommend you start with keyword difficulty and then try to find a keyword that suits your article and image with a decent volume. You can also find keywords by clicking the Questions button and this will bring up a list of questions.
Now these keywords will be your long tail keywords, but if you have an article that works for these keywords, feel free to use one of these questions so you could choose how to do SEO for Google sites. This keyword has a search volume of 30 in a keyword difficulty of nine. If you’re going to choose this keyword, you would then copy and paste this keyword. Go to your website. For this example, I’ll be using WordPress.
Now you’re going to upload an image or use an image that you already have in your media file. Click on that image, then you’d go over here to the alternative text, paste that keyword that you just chose, and then you could also use that keyword for the title. But I highly recommend that you use your keyword as the file name when you save the image and then upload that image into WordPress or your other CMS that you’re using. So the file name would already be the title, and then you can add that keyword into your alternative text. So there’s just one way where you can find keywords for your alt text.
Now I suggest if you’re going to use multiple images on that webpage or article to use keywords that are all similar and don’t use the same keyword for all your alt text. If you’re trying to rank that page for a local business, make sure to add the location within the alt text so that when people are searching for your service in your area and they look on the image section on Google, your image would then appear for that keyword and your location. If you guys have any more questions or comments, please let me know. And make sure to hit that subscribe button so you can stay updated with more SEO tips.
